The hyoid shortcut fails
The popular claim that a broken hyoid equals strangulation is not supported by current evidence. It is a relevant observation that must be interpreted with age, ligature, suspension, soft tissue, scene, and history.
What medical evidence does not answer
Compatibility with suicide is not a video of the act. The medical record can support or challenge mechanisms; it cannot identify who was in the cell without scene and access evidence.
Open Questions
- Can qualified independent reviewers inspect the complete image, histology, toxicology, ligature, and scene set?
- Were all potential foreign-DNA and trace-evidence results preserved and reported?
- How does the July 23 injury compare anatomically with the final findings?
