Radar debris-velocity argument

The NTSB challenged the assumptions required for that calculation, arguing that petitioners treated radar resolution as radar accuracy and connected separate primary returns as one tracked object.

Spike-tooth fractures

Petitioners cited more than 100 spike-tooth fractures and argued they indicated high strain rates associated with a high-energy event.

The NTSB did not dispute rapid strain, but argued the features were distributed widely and did not cluster around a location indicating a specific initiating detonation.

Witness 649 geometry dispute

The petition argued that Witness 649's sightline intersected the region where TWA Flight 800 lost power.

The NTSB disputed the bearing reconstruction and relied on original docket measurements. The dispute remains dependent on retrospective reconstruction of viewing geometry.

Additional explosive residue claims

The petition alleged additional positive explosive findings. The NTSB concluded the petition did not provide sufficient new primary documentation to establish those claims for reconsideration.
